i didn't have to lengthen anything. if you went to 5", maybe. but you should be safe at 3". mine don't even get tight at full turn. i didn't really add much height (actually, i think with the 3" riser and the CR Hi bend bars i'm only about 1/2" taller), just the ability to adjust the bars to a more comfortable position.
