Default Replacing the rotor on the 03 Kodiak 400 looking for info

Just replace the rotor on the front of the Kodiak got it on and good bit of room in the holes that the rotor is bolted on through so it can run out a little bit, here is where the machinist in me comes out I am thinking that I need to indicate the rotor in so that it runs fairly close true, am I getting a little anal on this, or is it indeed necessary to have it running true. Thanks for any info!

if it's not running true, you may get some vibration, but at the speeds you would normally travel on the trails i doubt it would be noticeable. not sure about an atv, but automobile rotor runout spec when mounted on the hub is usually .003" or less.

Well Hammer I actually brought home an indicator to see if I could tru it up closest I could get it was .020 run out so I guess that is close enough.

Normally we take a die grinder and a scotchbrite disk and clean the hub mounting suface prior to mounting the new rotor on the hub. This will eliminate some of the rotor runout, any little bit of rust on the hub can affect the way the rotor sits on the mounting suface. At the speeds the atv will be traveling I dont think .020" will cause you a problem.
