Went out to start my quad, and ive got no crank when i press the button. Turning on the key brings up the display, flipping on the engine run switch makes its normal small click sound, but presssing the engine start button does nothing. I HAVE put direct power to the starter and it will crank, so it cant be the starter right? Any ideas?
sounds like the relay. do you have a wiring diagram? plenty of people have had trouble with the relay, and i don't think they are very expensive. i'd probably try that first.
the relays cost like 70 dollars, which isnt too expensive if that IS the problem, but it is a costly attempt if it ISNT the problem. Could it be anything else that anyone could think of, but im pretty sure thats what it sounds like...
Now just because the relay doesnt click doesnt mean its the fault. You could try a voltage check at your relay signal voltage. If you have power coming from your start button it should be measurable. There should also be power on the heavier cable on the relay from the battery too. If the relay is getting voltage see if it there is voltage at at the starter when attempting to start. If so then the starters at fault. And do make sure your battery is good before checking. Work through it logicaly and if a step shows a problem check for the reason more closely. eg; fuses, connectors, components. all relative to ground. Hopes this helps in a nondestruction approach to solving things for you 1shot.
ok, so here is an update, somebody please help me! There is a fairly loud clicking noise at the starter relay when i try to start the bike. i have taken a test light to EVERYTHING and here is what ive discovered. There is obviously power going from the battery to the starter relay. The fuse on the battery side of the relay will light up the test light. The fuse on the OTHER side however will not light up the test light. The black cable that goes from the starter to the relay does NOT light up the light UNLESS i am pressing the start button. When i press the start button, the black cable WILL light up the light. Putting direct power to the starter wont start it, but it will spark a little and make what sounds like an attempt to start only 1 time, but then nothing. Please help!
if you have power going to the starter (the test light lites up when you hit the start button) i would check to see that the ground cable is firmly attached at the engine and the battery. if it is, you need a starter.
Is the neutral light on when in neutral and what happens when it is in gear and you pull in the left hand brake. Mine wouldn't start when in neutral but the green light wasn't coming on. I forget what I did to correct that. Sorry
Mine did same thing... I pulled the relay and tested it with a jump pack and a voltage tester... Easy to do look on YouTube. It was fine. All my fuses were good and it would also start if I put power directly to the starter so the last thing was the solenoid. Replaced wit with a new one and it's great now starts right up.
I have an '02 60 Grizzly. Recently experienced carb problems. Replaced the carb, rebuilding would not fix the problem. (Fuel overflowing, bad needle seat) Got the quad running and at idle runs great WITH half choke. Suspecting the cdi module because of no power and backfiring, I replaced the cdi module TWICE!!! Each time I install the new module it acts like there is no signal going to the starter. I plug the old one back in and it starts.........I made sure to order the '02 to '03 cdi module. No receipt, no packing slip, and no way to return the modules. (Pissed) Anyone have any idea what's going on with this thing. I've been a mechanic for 50+ years but, this one has me scratching my head................HELP

Most likely relay. Had the same thing happen to mine and found out broken headlight was causing a short. I figured that out after taking apart and testing entire wiring harness. Not fun.
Try making a jumper for the starter solenoid or use an old screwdriver and short the two nuts together. If that doesn't work it's probably the relay OR it's not getting power TO the relay
