Default Clutch destroyed

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what a complete clutch assembly should cost? I've taken it to a dealership because the bike 2007 700 grizzly was loosing top end speed, was told the clutch needed to be repacked then was told something went through the clutch destroying it . Not sure if the price they gave me is way to high.

The bike is a 2007 700 fuel injected automatic.

I'm not good at guessing, so what price did they quote you?

I glanced at a site that sells parts and it shows that a complete clutch is around $400.

Just to repack the clutch shouldn't cost that much,it's easy, you could do it yourself. Do you have any other details on what they said was "destroyed"?

What exactly are they saying is destroyed? Primary, secondary sheaves, fixed sheave, cam plate etc.

Unless the outer cover has been breached allowing something to get in there, I fear that your dealer may be getting ready to stick it to you!
Ask more questions before letting them start digging away!
(Unless THEY busted something during servicing and figure on hanging the cost around your neck...)

If the wet clutch and clutch housing/shaft is okay for around $500 you can buy a new machined moveable sheave, fixed primary sheave, cam plate, grease-less rollers and sliders, new belt, add a shim and stiffer secondary spring and do the work yourself. You would have a new clutch with more low end grunt and a slight increase in top end speed depending on what weight rollers you go with. Pocket the other grand for some future mods. I can post videos of how to do the work if you want and fill in the blanks missing from the video. You could always take pics of it with the cover removed so guys can tell you whats definitely good or not.
