What happens if you remove the spark arrestor and rear plate from the standard exhaust?
Besides sounding great, does is do any good????
Does it cause damage???
Would it be a disaster in the water???

Any experiences??

Any advise/thoughts would be appreciated

well it is alot louder i know i tried it.and my grizzly was running abit lean when i did that.so if you are going too do that i would check the spark plug for colour.i noiced abit more in the throttle but nothing too get excited about.and i would think it wouldnt be too safe in deep water because there wouldnt be as much back pressure.if you are looking for more bottom end power you can drill the baffel with holes in the muffler.and you can cut the end peice off the cap and put a bigger pipe on it and still use your spark arrester.with this mod i would think you would lose some top end speed.maybe a couple of mph.

One thing I know alot of people do is to drill a hole in the baffel then remove the end cap and weld on a bigger in diameter end pipe.

If you dont have the tools or expericence to do the welding you can go on ebay and search under "Yamaha Grizzly" and there is a end cap in alum or another offered in stainless for around $30 or so.

I heard you get a nice little performance gain plus a nice sound out of the Grizzly

Hey thanks for all the advise!!! much appreciated.
I had a Dura Blue Air Filter and Air box mod done,
I also got myself a 200mm x 12mm long steel drill bit,
and drilled out my baffle (12 holes in all!)
I tried to purchase a power tip from ebay, bur paypal does not work for South African Credit Cards, so I had a local engineering shop make me up one.
I am collecting it on Friday!!

I cant wait to try this new mod out on the trail this weekend.

Oh buy the way I spend so much time pulling "other" 2 wheelers and quads from the river, I decided to put this sign on the back of my Griz !!

.On Saturday the Mechanic from Yamaha and I were drilling out the exhaust with our newly purchased 12mm by 250mm long drill bit. After drilling 4 holes, the bit slipped and we gouged a hole in the side of the exhaust!!

No problem, Raymond the mechanic, removed the exhaust from the bike, took a hacksaw and cut it in half, took out his acetylene torch and proceeded to remove both baffles completely!!! He then welded the muffler together again and refitted it. Then he placed back the spark arrestor.

He took the original exhaust tip, cut of the inside section of the pipe and the inner tube and re-welded it to the tip, then bolted it back!

WOW it is VERY LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The initial power on acceleration is awesome.

Top end dropped by about 15Km per hour!

This is the combined effect of the Dura Blue air filter mod and exhaust mod

Hey the Billet Aluminium Power tip arrived, so off came the origional restrictive tip, and on came the 2" power tip. I decided to keep the SPARK ARRESTOR, mainly to keep out the mud.

WOW what a difference to the performance, especially the low end!!
