First time changing oil on a 1999 Grizzly 600, found a spare part!

I recently bought an old Grizzly 600. I am changing the oil on it and got it all changed just fine, but after I put in the new filter and the drain plug, I looked in the oil pan and found a spare part (usually not a good sign)! The only thing I can think of is that maybe it was something sitting in my oil pan before I started emptying the oil (it was an old pan sitting on the floor of my garage).
But I am concerned enough to post here in case it is something important. Maybe this is a stupid question, but being I have never changed the oil on this ATV (because I just got it), I want to know does this look like something that should have been there or not?
