For ATVs I use an HJC Sy-Max lift-face model. I ride with the face up most of the time, but flip it down for cold weather, storms, or in more "challenging" terrain.

For snowmobiles I use an HJC CL-X4 motocross style with goggles, because there's less of a fogging problem.

I use an openface most of the time until it gets cold, then I use my full face helmet.

Thats what I'm debating. I think I'd actually like an open face. I've always used motocross type, but I need a new one. My old helmet is too small, my nose hits the front :) I have my motorcyle helmet with shield that I could use in the cold of the winter. But I'm thinking I may go for the open face. Anyone else?

I think riding style should determine your helmet choice. How technical are the trails you ride? How fast do you ride? If you're into major rock climbing or the types of riding where you could slam your head into the handlebars, I think a closed-face helmet should be worn... be it an MX, a regular one, or a lift-face one like my HJC.

Now, a caveat about the lift-face (modular) helmets: The latch mechanism is not known to take direct impacts well. That means if there's an impact that comes up from underneath, the latch is likely to fail and cause the face of the helmet to lift, exposing your face. I know this and am aware of it. I feel that I'm more likely to take a direct facial impact and will take the chance. Plus I like the option of using it as an open-face most of the time.

For most of my riding I wear an HJC FGX motocross with goggles and when the weather gets real hot I use a half helmet with my goggles. In the winter months I use a full face snomobile helmet to keep as warm as possible. My neighbor got a modular from "Sportsman Guide" and I really like the modular design. I think he only paid $99.00 for his and that wasn't bad at all and it's DOT approved.

I try not to wear one. But, If I have too it's a Lazer Flip open shield. Grey with a reflective patch on the back. This grey helmet is one of five, a white one, two red ones, a half helmet, and the Lazer. I like Simpson's but haven't had one in awhile.

On the Grizzly I have a Bieffe Gr.1400, not really even sure if they make it anymore but it is a motocross style but has a flip down face sheild on it. Have a few vary dusty trails I ride and the face sheild comes in real handy. I saw in a new mag of mine Simpson has a helmet vary similar to the one I have but think it said it was around $200. I only paid $99 for me and my wifes in Dennis Kirk three years ago.

On the Raptor I ride with motocross style Thor SVR helmet
