Hammer i did notice that there was a duramax emblem and i am thoroughly disappointed with it always have been. I love Chevys but there motors just can not hold a candle to a CUMMINGS or even a power stoke sorry man just a fact of life!!!

Hammer about the HEMI i have pulled with both the suspension of the HEmi and the power it puts out is far grater than a chevy.. Sorry dude... Well that is my opintion anyway... They are both great trucks.... But dodge has always been about power and pulling... Chevy is more into comfort and looking good... That is what i have always thought anyway...

well, cummins (no G) is a great engine, but were talking about 2 engines that are now on the same playing field. if we are talking about hooking a hemi to a D max and cuttin' em loose, sorry but the hemi don't stand a chance.

dodge is all about pulling? hopefully you havent been pulling with a dodge auto tranyy....hehehehehe cause the only pulling you'd be doing is getting pulled onto a tow truck! hahahaha ask countrygrizz how much he likes his dodge.........

are you by chance thinking of the old 6.5 that is in the hummer? because no one will defend that engine........it was always a turd

Looks like Butch would have the best opinion on the 5.3 vs hemi debate,I haveowned both the 5.3 and the Hemi but not at the same time.My 99 GMC had the 5.3 and it was a solid engine but by the seat of the pants the Hemi is much stronger to me.

As a Hemi owner I can tell you it won't ever out pull a deisel regardless if it's a D-max or a Cummins or a Powersmoke. Also I can tell you Ilove the power of the Hemi but I hate the transmission it's hooked to, it has a terrible nearly 30% powerloss in the drivetrain, compared to something like 17% for Timmi's Toyota.

BTW Here's my Dodge doing a little tow duty....

You need to hook it up to 20 foot trailer with 5 full size quad's run it up a 20 % grade at65 mph from adead stop at a red light and see hpw torque feels. Just my opinion of course.....what does the ram resemble.

Sorry i may have over stepped the line. Ever one is entitle to enjoy their ownen equipment..... My type A personallity got the better of for a moment......

Grizzly4x4 I hate to say it but their is a reason the dodge is my wifes....lol, I never liked hauling with it or towing, I can only drive it for about 2 hours before I want out of the truck. I love the hemi when the truck has no cargo but the chevy rides and hauls better in my opinion for what I use it for and after a 5 hour haul I can get out of it without feeling like someone beat me with a bat. My wife loves the dodge but every time she gets in the chevy after a few miles she asks when we are gonna switch trucks....lol.

Dang, bluesman, that looks like my cabin! Thanks for the stats about the Toyota transmission, I have never heard that. Here is my real world observations about the trucks and engines being discussed. The Dodge 5.7, the Toyota 5.7, and the Chevy 6.0 are about even on pulling. The guys I know who have the 5.4 Fords and 5.3 Chevys lack some from the previous three. That is under equal loads. I must say after riding in my cousin's Duramax w/ Allison trans, I think this is currently the best pulling truck with auto trans. I would put the Dodge Cummins 2nd only with manual trans. The Ford to me is lacking on these two. That is from riding in all of these rigs, not driving them. I have never owned a diesel.

i never meant to insinuate that my 5.3 was a torque monster, haha and the only one it has to please is me. do i wish i had more snot when towing? you bet your sweet backside! but when i bought it, i hadn't planned to be towing as much as i now do.

my next truck will be a 3/4 ton, it will be a crew cab and it will either be a 6.0 or D-max. as much as i'd love to have the D-max, i have a hard time justifying the maintenance and operational costs of an oil burner.

the Cummins is definitely an awesome powerplant, i just can't get myself to drive the rest of the truck. our pulling truck is an '04 3/4 ton dodge with a cummins and the 6 speed manual. that thing has taken a beating and it has 205K on the stock bottom end. we have had success with the 6 speed, though we have sheared off an input shaft. (we are also making wayyyyyyyy more torque than dodge ever intended!) however, we only drive this truck on the track and everyday driving introduces a whole different set of issues.

You make a great point, hammer. How much power do you need? All these trucks have aftermarket power adders made for them. I looked at all 3 "American" trucks before buying mine. Price for equipment on each, I chose the Toyota. The engine/ trans options on the Toyota are limited. No 3/4 or 1 ton or diesel option. The 5.7 with tow package is rated to pull 10,000 lbs, that's more than I will ever use . If I need more, superchargers are available. Isn't it great to have choices?

I borrowed my bro-in-laws D-Max 3/4 ton with a 100hp tune on it and the Allison auto, I can say it tows better than anything else I have ever tried, I would run him unloaded with my Hemi and stay close but you put a trailer with about 5 quads behind us both and that D-max would blow my doors off.

I agree with what the others have said the GM trucks are the most comfy inside, but the Dodge and Fords seem a little more spacious inside. I have been back and forth between GM and Dodge,I have also had Ford work trucks in the past. For the right deal I would own any of them! I got a good deal on the Dodge, that's why I bought it. The next truck may well be a Duramax Chevy with the Allison if I ever wear out the Dodge.

Hammer.. No i am not that stupid to ever think bout hooking a diesel to a gas burner i just cannt spell!!!!! LOL!!!

Wolfer yes ur right a diesel WILL ALWAYS out pull any gas burner!!!

Blue ur right the tranny is not the greatest in the dodge... But the motor is better than the chevy... But the chevy tranny is better than the dodge and ANY diesel has them ALL beat!!!!!

My first truck was a dodge with no lift i had 33x12.50 on it and could go anywhere i wanted to go... Seemed i was always pullin out my buddies in there chevys... But i loved the 360 it was awesome even with 33's i could smoke the tires... But to me pulling the trailer which had not only the grizz but a hole pile of other **** on it and the bed was completely full (enought camping gear and clothes and food for 9 ppl to make it 3 days and nights... plus kid bikes and gog go juice and other stuff..)and i dont know what the grade was while we were on the road but the hemi pull it doing 70+ no problem... when we got in the hills on a rock road wide enought to fit one truck and im sure the grade was up there pretty good just about straight up the hole way....But what is funny in all this is right now i own a chevy!!!!! LOL!!! And i am about to buy a GMC!!!!! Now does anything i said make sense???? HAHAHA
