Guys, I am about ready to change the oil for the first time and I need to purchase an oil filter and some oil for it.

First off I have no idea where to get the oil filter, and second I have NO clue what type of oil to use. I was thinking to play it safe I would just get the yamalube stuff but I dont even know where to get that.

Can everyone please tell me what you have been using and how many miles you have used it.

First oil change, didn't the dealer tell you to take it back after so many miles or tanks of gas to get it done there, along with a once over to check everything and adjust cables etc., if they need it? You can Get the oil and filter at the Yamaha shop. Or get the filter at wall mart or a parts store if they carry them. Any good grade of oil as long as its not energy saving. I use ams oil, its synthetic and thats all that I use. Mobil 1 synthetic in the red cap 15W50 is another good choice. Yamalube works also. Always change the filter when you change the oil, use the hour meter or one of the trip meters to set up a change interval on what works for you with the type of riding that you do.

dannyk, thanks for the info. I never take the ATV back to the stealers for the initial check up as they charge WAY to much and I can do the same stuff at home. I have the service manual for the grizzly now and plan to use it for tighning up things as such. Most everyone I have talked to about the valves on the 04 grizzly's where very rarley out of spec after 100 miles. If I begin to hear tapping or feel power degrigation I will check the valves myself :)

Thank you for your input on the oil type, you mentioned that you can get the filter at wall mart or parts stores? WOW, I am used to honda and their specific freaking filters @ $18/filter. Your telling me it uses a standard oil filter that I can get at autozone? I LOVE YAMAHA!!! hehe..

My dealer said they dont do the valves at 100 miles waste of time and money, they do them at 1500 miles, all they did to mine was change the oil and filter and adjust the cables, and give it a once over. My riding partner did my valves at about 800 miles and I brought it back to the dealer on monday for a small oil leak on the right side of the engine, two of the hex head bolts on the valve cover were seeping a little, one right under the oil line to the head and the other one right next to it, no charge.
