Has anyone overheated with the 04 grizz? I am new to the grizz and noticed while riding that it seems hot. Is this normal? Also I noticed there was a radiator and fan package at high lifters. What is there reputation?

Wow alot of questions in one thread sorry....

My temp light has come on once. You should know that I do mostly mud and rocks, low speed stuff that will overheat anything. I took a 10 minute break and the light was off. I blasted down an old dirt road after that to cool it off.... it never came on again. When I got home, I cleaned the radiator, and boy did it need it. I've heard good things about the h.l. rad. but, I'm not the biggest h.l. fan. later!

Thanks for the reply! I really enjoy reading this forum! Thanks to Rob for creating this site!!

Bluegrizz I noticed someone saying that highlifter has changed the meaning of what was written in the forums. Is this true?

What other radiator and fan combos are there?

Thanks to all...

What you read about h.l.'s forum... I also read on this very forum. I think it was Rob who (don't quote me) said that, but I'm not sure. I have simply compared their products' prices with those of others, for example, their temp gauge. JTATV makes one **** of a temp gauge with more features than h.l.'s (backlighting, flush plastic mount instead of the ugly handlebar mount, etc.) for about 10 bucks less! They just seem too money hungry. I guess h.l. is just using smart marketing by selling alot of products that nobody can get anywhere else. I think the radiator/fan combo may just be one of those products, to answer your other question. later!

My issue with Highlifter isn't so much their pricing as it is the quality of their stuff AND their attitude on their forums.

Their skidplates are absolute garbage... Richochet's are better and that isn't saying much. You already pointed out the difference between their temp guage and the J&T one. And the way they allow their moderators to go off half-cocked on the forum is a big problem. Plus not allowing the discussion of any competing products.

IMO they have NO business running a web forum at all. It's a major conflict of interest if you ask me.

I couldn't agree more with you Rob. It does seem to be a conflict of interest especially if they will not let you talk about competing products. I will pass on the rad/fan package from them and look elsewhere.

Bluegrizz what is the link to the JTATV site. Rob do we have a links area? If not it might be a good idea. Only add the links that people on this forum think would be good or use themselves. Just my two cents worth.

I really do appreciate everyones feedback.

Here is a pic from the backyard trying to find stuff to run over..LOL!

I know I installed the HL skid plates on one of my Ranchers that I used to have and ended up putting PRM skidplates on the other one. In my expericence the HL skid plates were adequate but seemed high in price.

Now when the PRM plates came I was much more impressed with their fit and quality, also not to mention they were also quite cheeper then HL. Other than that have not really orderd anything else from them, not because of problems but it seems like you can find most of their products else were cheeper.

Just my 2 cents though added to the topic.

I had extreme overheating problems with my 04 Grizz. The heat coming out of the vented panels would burn my leg. With the overheating the machine would sputter and die. This was scary and dangerious when it happened a few times climbing steep hills. After a dealer check up, nothing out of the ordinary was found. Yamaha Customer Service was NO help. I was told all vechiles over heat if they are going slow. My Kodiaks have never had this problem.
I installed the High Lifter radiator and have never had a problem since. I was easy to install and fit like a glove. I wish Yamaha would pay for it.

The temp light never came on. The fan came at the right temp. Radiator was clean. No explanation for the overheating.
Here is the link for the HL radiator. http://www.highlifter.com/store/radiator.html

Is there a good plastic skid for the belly of the grizz that will bolt up just like the stocker, All the Alum ones I've had eventaully started to rattle, so I'd like to go with a heavy duty plastic one if possible

I have seen people take foam rubber and line the plate where the frame rails line up on the skid plate. It will also help in keeping some of the mud and dirt out.

To answer your question on a good plastic skid, don't really have a answer. Try Maier plastic(sp?) and see if they have anything for the Grizz.

I installed the Armidillo Skid Plate that was highly recomended. http://www.atvtires.com/index.armordillo.htm It is installed with oversize plastic washes and zip ties. Pretty hoaky setup. I tore one hole in it. Zip ties broke. It would have been great except for the way it fastened. I ended up with the HL Aluminum full package. No rattles so far. The plastic one finally ended up in the garbage.

QuadMan, The aluminum Richochet full skid plate mounted up very easily with access holes for the drains that align with the plugs and no rattles. I agree that HL is a little overpriced on their products and I have not been impressed with their customer support or service, but if you don't do your homework there are other places that are just as expensive. However they do have some good quality products that are better than you can find elsewhere and I would think the radiator/fan combo is one of those.
