Do any of you hear popping when you let off the gas and accelarate? Kind of sounds like drive train kicking in and out. maybe slack in differential or something. Is this normal or what?

JP,

Mine made the same sound when it was new. I have 507 miles on mine now and I dont hear that sound anymore. The only sound I get now is a slight clicking on decelleration only going downhill when the engine breaking kicks in. From what I was told this is a normal charicteristic of the engine breaking system on the yamahas. My 2001 kodiak did the same thing so it doesn't bother me anymore.

I`ve posted this once in here before. The popping is most likley the driveline braking system, it makes a little bit of noise when you engage it and disengage in the braking process.

It comes from the slack that is in the differential ring gear and pinion. It will make this sound from the rearend in two wheel drive, and can make this sound from the front end when in four wheel drive descendening down a incline in the four wheel drive mode.
