Hey Beast, i went for a good ride tonight and they didn't move at all, i guess they are tight enough? Hey on another question, how fast do you drive in low? Is it ok to drive in high range if you are just trail riding? Is low mostly for going through some muddy sloppy conditions? Any harm driving in high range?
I do almost all my trail riding in 2WD high range. The only time I switch to 4WD is if an obstacle/river/mud demands it. If it is severe I will then use Low range and if I am stuck I will use diff lock to get out. Steering is much easier in High range 2WD and this makes general trail riding fun!!
I switch from 2WD to 4WD on the move (up to about 20km/h). I always stop dead when i shift from High to Low range!
Hey Guy's i just noticed i have grease coming from my right front CV boot? It is leaking out towards the outside brake? I know i had it pretty tight(CV boot protector) but i had to because the left side came loose? I thought the left side was plenty tight enough? Have you guys had similar probs? Do you think it is just a bad/loose CV boot clamp? The bike only has 105K's or 8.5 hrs, thats it! Guess it is off to the dealers? I was hoping to go for a little ride today with my boy?
Sounds like you have to remove the CV protector to really see what is happening underneath it. (the main reason I would not put them on) Irv you just put them on just over a month ago so I would guess that either you have it so tight that the rubber boot is rubbing against the CV and it wore through or you messed up the lower seal at the boot band.
Thanks DKNARND, it is still under warranty so i will be letting the dealer deal with it. I too had reservations about putting them on so tight but like i stated i had too because of the left side coming loose. These are a yammy product so i thought they would have been tested out first? I will mention it to my dealer and see if i can get my money back? Do you think the cv band could have been a bit loose to begin with?.........Irv
If it was loose to begin with you would have seen some grease come out around the band before you ever put the covers on. It may not be a problem just you tightened it so much it is squeezing grease out.
I replaced a torn boot and after installing it some grease squeezed out from around the small band. Thought I was going to have problems but it was only a small amount and it has been good for two years now. Just recently I had an axle replaced under warranty and after a ride I noticed a little grease coming out from around the small band but it has stopped now also. Doesn't seem like any should come out but it appears that if the boot was to full some finds it way out. I imagine the covers somewhat constrict the boot and may be causing this same leakage.
I know this is an old post but i was just curious how many people still have theirs on? My outer ones were removed quite some time ago because i could not get them any tighter and i was actually squeezing grease out! I left the upper ones on until a couple of weeks ago when i noticed one had slid down and was just spinning on the axle! I could not get them any tighter and no i am not a small weak lad which i am sure a few would of asked? LOL. I think i have had enough of them and think they are more trouble than good? What are your thoughts?...Irv
Perhaps its just because the Griz has been at the dealer on/off for 4 months now due to the axles popping out. On a lighter side, I have no grease popping out, just axles!!!
