Well we all here have been wondering what is the best replacement shock for tricks to do one our 660's to make them handle better.

1) dampers, i found that the stick style for yfz450's work great.

2)springs, i tried the high lifter ones and was not a big fan, them do stop the body roll, but the performance still sucks.

3) shocks yeah right who has $600 or more for a pair of shocks, hmm, well maybe you dont need to spend that. I am here to tell you that the stock yfz450 shocks work on a grizzly.

Igot a pair of 05 yfz450 shocks off his bike (he got fox evols) We want to try and see if they worked on my grizzly, with a little work you can get them in there. they are alomst an 1" taller, so take the spring rate down and take all compression and rebound out.

We got them in and rode for 60-80 miles today, and i had the ride height a little low, so i took the pre load up to 1 1/4" on the spring, and compression at 1 click, and 6 on the rebound for now.

These shocks do what the high lifter spings do with the body roll, but also add performance, and adjustablity. I was flying through the rough stuff today, and the fast you go the better the keep get, wish i would have tried sooner.

So for $150 -$250 you can pick up a set of front shocks and have a fully adjustable piggy back shock that works great, oh and they can be rebuilt, and revalved to any way you want them.

Sorry for the dirty bike, was riding all day. and my 686 can run down a piped, clutched, and pod modded grizzly 700, 2 of 3 hole shots wonand never lost in the drag. grizzly tech better mod the 700 more! LOL

I find that i like the rear stock grizzly shocks with the yfz450 fronts, it feels just like my race quads did, and you can really powerslide these babies then. I was looking at the rear, and you would need a remote rezzie set up. The pipe and rear clutch tube are to close to the bracket to to fit a piggyback style one there, unless you get a non rezzie shock, but that is one reason why you would replace the shocks, more oil means less fade do to heat, also you can make more adjustment due to compression and rebound to get the bike to handle the way you want.

But for now i like the way it rides now, sport front end feel, with a plush rear end,

did you change the springs or just run them ?

reason i ask is your running twice the wight on them than there ment for. probably going to blow the valves very fast

I got the stock 450 springs on it. Idot them set up with 1 1/4" of preload on them, and i got them set way soft, these shock are way more stiffer then stock, and will hold more weight then stock. The angle these stock run now are more verticle then angled in the yfz which has more pressure on them!

I got compression on click 1 on hard from totally soft, and rebound set at 6 from soft to fast.

Between a pair of these and the Denton satbilizer, I won't have a chance when the Missus catches me!

Although I DID take her to the Can-Am dealer for a shopping expedition for one of those Spyders...

Bob, you can sell your high lifter springs and stock shocks for a few dollars, and these are on $100-$300 a pair , tell the wife well i could have spent $600-1300 for a set lol!

With the new shocks to turning is better, cause of the more downward pressure of the shocks and you get more turning bit.

Jasson, what year yzf450 shocks will I need to get. I think I will try that myself.

Just bought a like new set of 06 take offs off ebay. Thanks

It will be hard to get them to blow! I think your grizzly will be trashed before they go. tj, when you put them in, just take the preload all the way off and compression and rebound all the way to soft and slow! make it way easier to stuff them in!:)

Yeah i wish the se would come with better shocks. I think a few might find them a bit stiff, but the harder you fide them the soft the feel. and you can always have them valved or light oil put in them, and you have a ton of adjustablity with these shocks!

Jasson, Don't underestimate our Gunny... I'm sure that he'd be your worst nightmare if you thought you could show off by passing him on a tight trail...

He'd block, roost, bump, bump, roost, and then probably just pull away and pretend that he didn't even know that you were there...

Jeez, I've been busy .... Iput some items up for sale on a local web sale site ... and sold a set of wheels in 45 minutes. Still need to sell my 589's & my Banshee. Then the grandkids knocked the rear screen door off it's track & busted the rollers ... dang little munckins !!!!

And I sold my fender extensions & HL springs & shocks so I've gotta get them boxed up & shipped. And I've been trying to figure out some mapping software issues, and needed to install my steering dampener & then the Works shocks I got from RobG. AND ... when ya posted this info .... I was in Moab dude !!!

Now, to comment on Jasson's comments & mod, which he wants me to do so badly for some reason ........ I liked the HL springs .... for the type of riding I do .... and I don't race. Only reason I sold'em was, I got a killer deal on some used Works shocks .... which I've always wanted ..... or some other high dollar brand. But I really liked the way the HL springsrode, controlled the bounce, and gave me a little bit of lift.

Personally, I'm not a fan of having a real high dollar shock on the front & my lowly mediocre stock shocksin the rear ...... I mean .... to me ........ that's likeonly doing half of a full mod.......... but whatever turns yer crank.

And as you know, I feel if ya wanta take a utility ATV & treat it & race around on it like it was a sport bike .... buy the sport bike. Then you get things like .... really good shocks right off the bat
Image

Well .... those are my opinions & thoughts ......... however, those YFZ shocks do look cool on there, that's fer sure
